Choosing Friends

Who are your closest friends? Who do you go to when you need advice, or want to share the latest news? Who do you go to for comfort? Who do you tell your secrets to? Do they make you happy?  Psalm 1:1-2 says “Blessed (or happy) is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law doth he meditate day and night.” Verse 1 tells us three negative behaviors that we as Christian teens must be careful to avoid if we want to be happy. First, you walk with ungodly, then you stand with sinners, and finally you sit with the scornful. This dangerous progression goes from a casual contact with those who have no fear of God, to actually adopting their hypocritical attitude. Spending too much time around wicked behaviors will lead you to a seared conscious. A godly teen will chose his best friends carefully, because he knows that spending too much time with those who reject God will weaken him. The ungodly are all around us. Taking their advice can be fatal! The blessed (happy) teen does not slow down to walk with them. If he does, his walk will soon come to a standstill. BUT verse 2 shows us how we can walk with God AND be happy! According to verse 2, “his delight is in the law of the LORD”.  A godly teen desires to have more than a casual acquaintance with the Bible. He considers his time with God to be a “delightful” part of his day. And then he meditates on it day and night. So, who are you finding your happiness in? Your friends? Or Christ? -Miss Emily
